Care & Maintenance of Your Toys

At Good For Her, we want your toy to continue to give you pleasure as long as possible. Whenever your purchase a toy from us you will receive a care and maintenance sheet with cleaning, storage and safety instructions. Check out these links if you have misplaced your sheet or would like more information.

I. Vibrator Care and Maintenance

At Good For Her we understand that the purchase of one of our vibrators can be a considerable investment. To ensure that you get the most out of your new purchase, we highly recommend that you care and maintain it in the following manner:

Cleaning

Do not submerge the vibrator in water unless it is waterproof. This may short the vibrator motor. Clean the vibrator using a warm, soapy, damp cloth. Use a non-creamy soap such as a clear glycerine soap. Oils in a soap can ruin the finish on your toy. Wipe soap off with a non-soapy damp cloth.

If you want to use a sex toy cleaner we recommend Dream Clean or Diva Wash since they do not contain Nonoxynol-9, an ingredient many people find irritating to sensitive tissues.

Lube

A water- or silicone-based lube is recommended for vaginal play and is strongly recommended for anal penetration.

Some manufacturers recommend that you do not use a silicone-based lube (eg. Pjur, Uberlube) with silicone products as it may slightly discolor or remove the sheen on the item. This discoloration depends on the type of silicone used in the item and the make of silicone lubricant

In our experience we have not noticed any damage to most high quality silicone products caused by high quality silicone lubricants such as Pjur. You could consider a spot test on the base to determine the effect on your new purchase. When in doubt, use water-based lubricants.

Do not use with oil/petroleum based lubricants. These products will damage the item, can trap bacteria and cause an infection. This includes keeping massage oils away from these toys.

Storage

Remove the batteries after each use; both the vibrator and batteries will last considerably longer. Corrosion of the wiring and battery contacts can occur if the batteries are not removed.

To Share or Not to Share

Share your toys only with those with whom you are sharing sexual fluids. If you want to share your vibrator with others with whom you are not sharing sexual fluids, use a condom on the toy in order to practice safer sex. These toys cannot be sterilized.

Safety

We recommend using condoms with soft jelly toys, since these products often absorb lubricant and in case they may contain phthalates, a latex softener that has been banned in the use of children’s toys (this does not apply to silicone toys)

Do not tug on the cord if there is one between the battery pack and vibrator. When retrieving the vibrator, grasp the vibrator rather than pulling on the cord. If you insert an egg-shaped vibrator, consider first putting it inside a condom and then retrieve it by pulling on the condom. Otherwise the cord could easily become detached and/or damaged.

Do not use vaginal vibrators anally. Use only soft toys with a flared base for anal stimulation. If you use a vibrator both anally and vaginally, make sure you put a condom on it for anal use for ease of cleaning and also to not spread bacteria to the vagina.

Warning: any battery-operated device generates heat when in operation. If the vibrator does not have access to air it may become hot enough to cause injury.

Therefore,

  • Do not lie on the vibrator or battery pack.
  • Always remove the batteries when not in use.
  • Do not fall asleep while using the vibrator.
  • Do not use vibrators on irritated or injured areas.

II. Silicone Care and Maintenance

At Good For Her we understand that the purchase of one of our silicone products can be a considerable investment. To ensure that you get the most out of your new purchase, we highly recommend that you care and maintain your silicone dildo or silicone vibrator with a removable vibe in the following manner. (for silicone toys with a non-removable vibrator, please refer to the Vibrator Care and Maintenance instructions above)

Cleaning

Clean it with soap and water, it may be submerged in water. If you want to use a sex toy cleaner we recommend Dream Clean All Natural Toy Cleaner or Diva Wash since they do not contain Nonoxynol-9, an ingredient many people find irritating to sensitive tissues.

Sterilizing Silicone

Wash the toy with non-oily soap and water
Submerge in the boiling water for 3-4 minutes
Remove with tongs
Allow to cool and dry

Storage

Store your item in fabric or a plastic bag after it has dried. Dust does adhere to silicone
Do not allow anything sharp to come into contact with it (eg. cat claws, staples on the package) as it can tear

To Share or Not to Share

If you’re using the toy with someone else, we recommend using a condom on the toy unless you also share sexual fluids with that person. You can also boil this silicone toy to sterilize it between uses.

Lube

A water-based lube is recommended with silicone products. A lubricant can significantly enhances vaginal play and is strongly suggested for any anal penetration.

Some manufacturers recommend that you do not use a silicone-based lube with silicone products as it may slightly discolor or remove the sheen on the item. If you wish to use a silicone lube with your silicone toy,  we suggest doing a spot test on the base to determine the effect on your new purchase. Pjur is a high quality lube that does not interact with most of our silicone toys. Alternatively, you could use a condom on the toy, when using a silicone lube. If in doubt, use a water-based lube.

Do not use with oil/petroleum based lubricants. These products will damage the item, can trap bacteria and cause an infection.

Safety

We highly recommend using condoms with soft jelly materials in case they may contain phthalates, a latex softener that has been banned in the use of children’s toys. (does not apply to silicone)
