Quickie with Cameryn Moore

Cameryn Moore is the sex-work alias for an award-winning producer, director, choreographer, and writer who has been creating and performing since 2000, first in San Francisco, then in Boston.

In addition to her live performance work, Ms. Moore is a full-time phone sex operator, dirty-talk educator, and creator of a forthcoming line of custom and off-the-rack audio smut (heh heh, she said “rack”).  You can catch her in Toronto at the Fringe Festival, July 2-10 (check out the Toronto Fringe Festival site for more info)  AND, she’ll be at Good For Her on July 7 giving a workshop on Phone Sex and Talking Dirty.  Come check it out!

Here’s our quickie interview with the lovely and talented Cameryn Moore:

How did you get into being a phone sex operator, and what made you want to build a performance around your experiences?

I started doing the work because I was laid-off and broke and my resume was a touch too eclectic for normal job-hunting. But people have been telling me for years that I should go for it, so I did. As for the play Phone Whore, I’ve been writing plays and shows for 8+ years on other subjects; this just happened to be the new raw material that my life presented me with. I also was thinking a lot about the issues of taboo and sexuality that were coming up for me as I worked with my clients, and sought a way in which I could explore those issues.

Do you find that men and women differ in their response to sexy talk?

I have never yet taken a call from a woman, so I can’t say, as far as phone sex. I don’t think men and women differ in response to sexy talk that much in person. If you’re wired for sound, you’re wired for it, whatever your gender.

If you could give one tip to someone about giving good phone sex or dirty talk, what would it be?

Listen. That’s how you learn what fantasies someone wants, and that’s how you get feedback about how you’re doing.

What can people expect from your workshop on July 7?

Well, they’ll get some anecdotes, but a lot of experiential exercises, too, where we practice description A LOT. People should definitely be prepared to participate.

Tell us a bit about Phone Whore, your play running at the Toronto Fringe Festival from July 2-July 10.

Phone Whore is a slice-of-life, one-hour visit with Larissa, a phone sex operator. The audience is in the role of a new friend, hanging out with Larissa while she is logged on at work, and they get to hear her side of four short calls that she answers over the course of the play. The first call is fairly “vanilla”, but subsequent calls are increasingly intense. In between these interruptions, Larissa discusses her profession, makes toast, praises the clients she works with, has several cups of coffee, and reveals the way that her work, life, sexuality and art have become intertwined.

Thanks Cameryn!

June Events!

Filed under: Good for Her News — Tags: — Alison Lee @ 4:51 pm

Good For Her is proud of the ways we support our community.  Every year, we donate thousands of dollars worth of prizes and other financial support, offer our services as a ticket outlet, speak to community groups about sexuality and pleasure, and contribute to initiatives ranging from cancer research to top surgery, from arts to entertainment, literary to film and fundraisers of all stripes, and we keep the huge bulk of that support right here in Toronto.

June is an especially busy month for Good For Her sponsorship, and we wanted to pass on the word about some of the events we are a part of in the coming weeks!

Good For Her Community Mural Project

Saturday, June 19 12-4 pm
175 Harbord Street (mural will be painted around the corner on Croft Street)

Once upon a time, Good For Her had a beautiful mural. Oh, we loved it so – from the blue skies to the anal beads discreetly tucked amongst the flora and fauna. Then, one day, somebody vandalized our beloved mural, and a lovely customer suggested how much she would love to lend a hand to fix it up and make it beautiful again. We thought that was the nicest thing we’d ever heard, and we’d love it if you wanted to stretch all those artistic muscles and lend a hand too!

Join us at 175 Harbord Street (around the corner on Croft Street is where we’ll be painting) for fun, frolic and a great community gathering! There will be snacks and frosty bevvies, and if you pitch in, we’ll give you a coupon for 15% off anything in the store! Mural painting will be led by Nancy Mix, and you’ll be able to contribute to a great neighborhood art project.

Please note: No prior artistic experience is required (we’ll give lots of guidance) and kids are welcome!

Switch - A Queer Porno Play Party!

Filed under: Good for Her News, Porn, feminist porn awards — Tags: , — Alison Lee @ 11:18 am

Carrie Gray from Aslan Leather has created one heck of a send off to the Feminist Porn Awards weekend - be sure to check out Switch - A Queer Porno Play Party!

I know you are all curious and maybe a bit shy, so I asked Carrie those all important questions about what to expect at Switch so you wouldn’t have to.  Allow me to share with you:

What can people who have never gone to a play party expect from Switch?

Carrie Gray Says: They can expect to be welcomed into a a room of hot sexy queers who are there to play, watch, flirt and socialize. Porn is the theme - we watch it, some of us make it and some of us make a living in the industry so this is a celebration of queer porn. They will see hot stage performances and sexy scenes throughout the evening and if they want to play but do not have a partner they can choose an activity like Bondage, Flogging Spanking, play piercing and have some fun with one of the experienced volunteers at a first timer play station. Sex will be permitted with safe sex supplies available.  Food and non alcoholic beverages will be provided, this is a BYOB party.

What are you looking forward to most about this party?

Carrie Gray says:  Playing in a in a porn inspired play space with a bunch of hot sexed up queers and creating a warm and friendly social environment where kinky queers will want to gather , socialize and play!

Well, if that doesn’t sound like the sweet, syrupy cherry on top of a smut filled weekend, I don’t know what does.  Click here to register.

Thanks Carrie!

Viva Las Vegas!

Filed under: Good For Her writers and staff, Good for Her News, Porn — Tags: , — Alison Lee @ 2:11 pm

Good For Her is Vegas bound!  Yours truly is heading to Sin City to attend the Adult Entertainment Expo, tirelessly yapping about how awesome the Feminist Porn Awards are and checking out the latest and greatest in dirty DVDs and sexy toys. I’m also excited to visit so many excellent people, so if you are going too, let me know!  I’ll give you an I (heart/butt plug) Feminist Porn Button!

Also, we are all really excited about some great people who have been nominated at the AVN Awards, which are frequently called “The Oscars of Porn”  (The Feminist Porn Awards, according to Tristan Taormino, are like “The Independent Spirit Awards of Porn” or, as I like to call them the “Way Awesomer Than Anything Else Ever Awards” but I’m biased).  Here’s just a few of our faves who got nods from the big guns:

Jiz Lee - Web Starlet of the Year

Dylan Ryan - Best Solo Scene For Crash Pad Series 3

Champion (and amazing director Shine Louise Houston) - Best Video Feature  (which, you may remember, already won Movie of the Year at the 2009 Feminist Porn Awards!)

Madison Young - Best BDSM Release for Bride of Sin

Carlos Batts - Best Director (Non-Feature) for Voluptuous Biker Babes

Midori’s Expert Guide to Sensual Bondage, Penny Flame’s Expert Guide to Rough Sex, Tristan Taormino’s Expert Guide to Threesomes and Tristan Taormino’s Expert Guide to Anal Sex for Men - All in the Educational Category!

Courtney Trouble - Best Music (both Roulette and Speakeasy were nominated!)

Nica Noelle and Sweet Sinner for Best New Line (check out Naughty Neighbors, The Stepmother and The Stepmother 2 for a taste of this!)  This lady also got a nod for Director of the Year!

Tristan Taormino (again!) for Best Specialty Release for Rough Sex

Buck Angel for Transsexual Performer of the Year

I look forward to watching all these brainiac sex pots walk the red carpet from the safety of my hotel room on Pay Per View.

And, yes, I’m serious about the buttons.

xoxo
