ALPHABET PORN
By Cheri Michael

August 18 – September 29

Art Party Thursday August 27, 7-9 pm

Cheri Michael began studying Sacred Sexuality seven years ago.   As a workshop and event facilitator for over a decade, it has become Cheri’s desire to inspire others to embrace their sexuality. Cheri teaches sexuality workshops at various locations as well as offering individual counseling sessions, private workshops, and group workshops in-house or on-site.

An artist in her own right, Cheri has been writing poetry and creating other forms of art for as long as she can remember. Her favorite artistic muse is sacred sexuality, self-exploration, and eroticism.

The Alphabet Porn series is a playful project for Cheri and combines her love of words, letters, collage and playing with ideas / items in a manner that is outside their ordinary use. The idea of Alphabet Porn came up at a social gathering in the beginning of 2009. Cheri loved the concept and decided to see what letters creating porn would look like. This series is the end result. Hope you enjoy!

Erotic Art at Good For Her - GenderFUCK

Filed under: Good for Her News — Tags: , — Alison Lee @ 3:26 pm

genderFUCK - art show at Good For Her running until mid-August

Gender fucking is hot, and fucking gender is hot too — although it may not be so easy to define “gender” itself. As we move onto a queer landscape which aggressively refuses definitions and hierarchies, gender has evolved from something to be taken for granted, to something to be jerked off. So much pleasure can only come from playing with something we’re not supposed to touch. And that’s exactly what Frances Mahon’s work does: it takes cunts and cocks and assholes and clits and rubs them all the right way. Furry, rubbery, wooly, slick, Mahon dehumanizes the physical to make it human all over again, presenting a whack of genitalia as something we can all get off on. Gender transgressions have been the source of many illicit pleasures, and will hopefully continue to be as gender gets queered even further through art and play such as this.

bio

Frances Mahon is a sculptor, book maker, and video artist whose work examines the fabricated, political nature of architecture and its relationship to the human body. Working with current feminist and transgendered theory, Mahon creates faithful 1:1 reproductions of pre-exisiting sites through pattern making and hand sewing, as well as playful re-interpretations of the body itself. Mahon’s work has been exhibited across Canada, including several performances of the legendary Donut Spectacular. Mahon currently lives and works in Toronto, Ontario.

Artist Statement

getting off, highway 6 is a sensual photo-story comprised of a series of images taken at a motel off highway 6 in rural Ontario.  It explores a chance encounter of silence, touch and the risks of two queer bodies in heat.  The fire of crimson reds, the texture of found ropes, and the taste of sweat on strangers’ skin combine to form this compelling image story.

f square is the creative chaos duet of karen b. k. chan and reena katz.  Through still and moving digital images, we create works that contribute to the emerging visual culture of queer, trans, anti-racist, sex-positive bodies. Our illusory photographs come from the beautiful dance between our city, our rural spaces, our inner landscapes and our bodies – all of which we inhabit with respect, pride and mystery.

With these reflections, we hope to contribute to the collective imagery and imaginaries of feminists, anti-racists, queer and trans folks, revolutionaries, organizers, cultural workers and our friends.
