Erotic Art at Good For Her - GenderFUCK

genderFUCK - art show at Good For Her running until mid-August
Gender fucking is hot, and fucking gender is hot too — although it may not be so easy to define “gender” itself. As we move onto a queer landscape which aggressively refuses definitions and hierarchies, gender has evolved from something to be taken for granted, to something to be jerked off. So much pleasure can only come from playing with something we’re not supposed to touch. And that’s exactly what Frances Mahon’s work does: it takes cunts and cocks and assholes and clits and rubs them all the right way. Furry, rubbery, wooly, slick, Mahon dehumanizes the physical to make it human all over again, presenting a whack of genitalia as something we can all get off on. Gender transgressions have been the source of many illicit pleasures, and will hopefully continue to be as gender gets queered even further through art and play such as this.

bio
Frances Mahon is a sculptor, book maker, and video artist whose work examines the fabricated, political nature of architecture and its relationship to the human body. Working with current feminist and transgendered theory, Mahon creates faithful 1:1 reproductions of pre-exisiting sites through pattern making and hand sewing, as well as playful re-interpretations of the body itself. Mahon’s work has been exhibited across Canada, including several performances of the legendary Donut Spectacular. Mahon currently lives and works in Toronto, Ontario.
